Laboratory testing is one of the key components that determines the credibility of any cannabis regulatory system. This process was the focus of a technical visit by the representatives of the National Agency for Cannabis Control (NACC), led by Director General Ms. Anila Alliu, to the reference laboratory of the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA).
The laboratory performs analytical testing on cannabis products to verify compliance with safety and quality requirements. During the visit, the Agency observed the procedures used for sample intake, storage, analysis, and quality assurance.
Particular attention was given to testing for microbiological contaminants, heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents, mycotoxins, and cannabinoid profiles. The delegation also reviewed the analytical instruments used to support these activities, including advanced laboratory technologies and internal quality control systems. One area of particular interest for Albania was pesticide monitoring.
While regulatory requirements vary across jurisdictions, the laboratory’s operational model and analytical infrastructure provide valuable examples for the development of national testing capacities. In a sector where product quality is directly linked to patient safety and market integrity, laboratory oversight remains one of the most important regulatory tools.
