On December 3, 2024, the General Director of the National Agency for Cannabis Control/ NACC, Assoc. Prof. Linda Pustina, held a fruitful bilateral meeting with the General Director of the Cannabis Control Department (DCC) in California, Mrs. Nicole Elliot. Representatives from both institutions also participated in the meeting.
During this meeting, Assoc. Prof. Linda Pustina and Mrs. Elliot exchanged experiences and thoughts on best practices in regulating and monitoring the cannabis sector. Assoc. Prof. Linda Pustina presented a detailed overview of the current situation in Albania, including the progress made so far, the challenges, and the potential that this sector offers, as well as the adoption of the new law no. 61/2023.
Mrs. Pustina clarified the role of the National Agency for Cannabis Control/ NACC in monitoring the implementation of the law and the key challenges that need to be addressed to create a sustainable sector, supported by legality and transparency. In this context, the importance of advanced tracking systems was emphasized to prevent illegal trade and ensure compliance with international standards, building a solid foundation for a trustworthy, sustainable, and regulated industry.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties committed to advancing mutual cooperation in the field of cannabis cultivation and trade monitoring, exploring opportunities for the implementation of advanced technologies and the improvement of scientific research between universities in Albania and California.
